Mandy-Morning
It was nighttime; the full moon looked into the window and watched the people dancing in the ballroom. One of those people was named Mandy. She sat alone and watched as couples danced, wishing for a prince to come sweep her off of her feet, when suddenly a man's voice was heard... "Care to dance?" said the handsome man as he extended his hand to Mandy. She gazed dreamily into the face of someone she knew very well. In his white tuxedo and with a rose in hand, he smiled at Mandy with love and trust. She was speechless at first, but finally squeaked out an "Okay, Sam." Mandy's hand was in Sam's as he led her through the dance floor. They danced for what seemed to be forever, but Mandy wished it would've been longer. As they danced, the gazed into eachother's eyes. Sam moved closer, then Mandy. They were about to kiss.....
*Buzz....Buzz....BUZZ*
Mandy awoke with a start. She had been dreaming about her crush whom she had known her entire life, Sam. She lied there a while, gazing around her pale violet room. Her eyes fell upon her white furniture, her desk (which was covered in school work and journals), and her little dog Haley sleeping peacefully on the rug. Dragging herself out of bed, she silenced her alarm and started preparing for school. "Uggh, Monday" she thought. As she glanced in the mirror she saw a pretty girl, tall and slender, with brunette hair that fell lightly on her shoulders. She stared into the glittering green eyes, and the little dimples on her cheeks. She saw a pretty girl, but didn't see the pretty girl as herself. She simply saw a face, that didn't feel like her own.
She went about her normal routine, brushed her teeth, whipped her hair into a loose ponytail, and attempted to pull together an outfit that could make her feel confident. She was finishing her makeup when her father walked in.
"Honey, we need to leave soon...oh you look fantastic!" he said.
Mandy's father was a middle-aged man with a balding scalp that just seemed to work. His laugh lines and dimples complimented his friendly smile, and his eyes twinkled with understanding and care.
"Thanks Dad..." Mandy said, with a disdainful look in the mirror.
"What's the matter? he asked as he walked over and placed a hand upon her shoulder.
"I don't know, I just don't think I look nice. I don't know if I can go through the auditions today."
Mandy moved across the room and flopped down on her oversized pillow. Today were the auditions for the school musical production of "Beauty and the Beast". Mandy was auditioning for the lead role of Belle, a result of a dare by her friend Brittany. As she lied there she thought to herself, "How will Sam ever notice a girl like me?"
